Description

The 1996 Case IH 7230 is a model from the highly popular Magnum 7200 Series of agricultural tractors, produced from 1994 to 1996. Known for power, reliability, and comfortable cabs, it was a significant workhorse for tillage, planting, and heavy PTO work.

Powered by a Case IH CDC 8.3-liter (505 cu in) 6-cylinder turbocharged diesel — essentially a Cummins design renowned for durability and strong torque. PTO horsepower is rated at 170 hp (126.8 kW), with Nebraska Tractor Test results showing maximum PTO power of 184.97 hp (137.9 kW) at 1800 RPM. Gross engine horsepower is approximately 188 hp. Fuel capacity is approximately 95 US gallons (359.6 L).

Equipped with an 18-speed full powershift transmission (18 forward, 4 reverse) allowing smooth on-the-go shifting without clutching. Optional 24-speed full powershift with creeper gears available. Electro-hydraulic wet disc clutch.

The closed-center PFC hydraulic system delivers approximately 29 gpm (110 lpm) total flow with 22 gpm (83.3 lpm) SCV flow. Equipped with 2–4 rear remote hydraulic valves. Category III/IIIN rear 3-point hitch with electronic draft sensing. Rear lift capacity approximately 10,875 lbs (4,932 kg). Independent rear PTO with electro-hydraulic wet disc clutch at 1000 RPM (1.75" shaft), with optional 540/1000 RPM dual-speed.

Available in 2WD and MFWD configurations. Hydraulic wet multiple-disc brakes, electric rear differential lock, and hydrostatic power steering. Operating weight ranges from 17,790 to 21,680 lbs ballasted. Common tire sizes: 14.9R28/380/85R28 front (MFWD), 20.8R38 or 18.4R42 rear with duals.

The Magnum cab was highly regarded for spaciousness, excellent visibility, and operator comfort for its era, contributing to reduced fatigue during long working hours.
