Description

The 2002 John Deere 8220 is a powerful and popular row-crop tractor from the 8020 Series, produced from 2002 to 2005. Known for robust performance, advanced technology for its time, and operator comfort, it handles a wide range of demanding farm tasks.

Powered by a John Deere PowerTech™ 8.1-liter (496 cu in) 6-cylinder turbocharged diesel with electronic high-pressure common rail (HPCR) fuel system. PTO horsepower is approximately 190 hp (141.7 kW), with Nebraska Test results showing 222.35 hp (165.8 kW) maximum at 1900 RPM. Gross engine horsepower is approximately 233–256 hp. Fuel capacity is approximately 135 US gallons (511 L).

Transmission options include the 16-Speed PowerShift™ (16 forward, 4 reverse) for smooth on-the-go shifting — the most popular choice — or the optional Infinitely Variable Transmission (IVT™/AutoPowr™) providing stepless speed control from 0.03 mph to 26 mph with automatic RPM optimization.

The closed-center PFC hydraulic system provides 33.5 gpm (126.8 lpm) standard or 42.5 gpm (160.9 lpm) with optional high-flow pump. Equipped with 3–5 mechanical rear SCVs. Category III/IIIN rear 3-point hitch with electronic draft sensing. Standard rear lift capacity of 12,300 lbs (5,579 kg), optional 15,180 lbs (6,885 kg). Independent PTO at 1000 RPM with optional 540/1000 RPM dual-speed.

Available in 2WD and MFWD. Optional Independent Link Suspension (ILS) front axle dramatically improves ride quality, traction, and control at higher speeds. Operating weight ranges from 19,100 to 22,450 lbs. GreenStar™ Ready for AutoTrac™ integration and Implement Management System (IMS) for automated headland sequences.
